Reading Group – March 2018 I

On 7 March 2018, the CPRG reading group explored how incremental writing, anecdote, wandering, notebooking and chance encounter can be used as ways to generate ideas and find stories within the landscape.

Led by Simon Aeppli (senior lecturer on BA Film Production and MA Documentary Practices at University for the Creative Arts, Farnham), we discussed extracts from Simon’s documentaries and Georges Perec’s essay, ‘Species of Spaces’.

Simon works on personal and subjective forms of documentary and essay film. His films focus on place and memory and use the landscape of Northern Ireland as a site for investigation and discovery. He recently exhibited at Format 17 International Photography Festival and won the Notting Hill Editions Essay Film Prize at the Curious Arts Festival, 2017.
